Earlier I had written a review on Talking Heads 1984 filmed concert "Stop Making Sense" that I had purchased from Prime Video. In addition to buying the video of this outstanding concert I had also purchased on CD the special new edition of the concert as well. Since its arrival in the mail I have listened to this performance quite a few times and it has quickly become one of my favorite albums in my music collection. As many times as I have listen to it I don''t tire playing this outstanding concert. If you want to know my feelings on the concert itself you can read my review on it here on Amazon. As for the CD itself there are two things I want to mention. First when I played the CD for the first time I was blown away at the sound quality. All of the songs have been digitally remastered for this new edition and you hear it. Put this on your stereo and close your eyes. I tell you you will think you are at the Pantages Theater, where the concert took place, the sound is that clear. If you are use to listening to the music only from watching the concert itself you won''t believe what you hear. The quality is that outstanding! Listen to the Talking Heads performance of "Take Me To The River" on this disc and see what I mean. If you have seen the concert you know of course there was only the nine members on the stage as this song was being played. Listen to this performance on the CD and you think there was a choir on stage singing backup on the song. I am telling you this album is pure enjoyment to listen to.

The other thing I wanted to mention with this special new addition you get the entire performance on this album. When this album was released way back when on vinyl time constraints limited only nine songs from the concert to be on the record. With this CD the entire concert is on here with the seven songs that had to be left off previously part of the performance once again. If you are a Talking Heads fan or have this concert in your video collection you owe it to yourself to add this CD to your music collection.

When I first purchased this on cassette as a pre teen. I was disappointed that some songs were missing. Should have been a double cassette. Plus, MTV played mainly played the songs from Speaking in Tongues so the older tracks didn’t get airplay. I think this is one of the best live albums ever. The concert versions often are better than the original album versions. Plus, you get Genius of Love from Tom Tom Club. You have to watch the concert too. Psycho Killer is so interesting with Byrne flailing about. I’m disappointed it took over 30 years for the full concert to come out.

Even though this is the Mp3 version of that classic concert or concerts, you can still feel the energy coming off David Bryne.Because lets face it,the Talking Heads are nothing without David that was showed in the one song the Tom Tom Club played in the album, it was lifeless. But when David came out with the big suit, things picked up again. But David is not as good without Frantz,Weymouth,or Harrison. The evidence shows in his solo career which is nothing compared to his TH days. But this album is a must have for anyone with a good ear and sense of life. This is kinda like a studio version, by that i mean the crowd noise is mostly blocked out,his supporting singers arent as audible, and you can hear Davids voice twice, one in echo and the other one on stage. But STOP Making Sense provided rythyms to songs that were better than the studio version by fa,for example ,Burning Down the House,Take me to the River, and Girlfriend is Better. All in all, this is a MUST HAVE FOR ANY MUSIC FAN!

When the film first came out the format for selling music was the LP, which limits how much material can be dubbed per unit. Now that CDs are out the format allows every song from the film to be included.

I''d heard of this group from years ago (I''m a senior citizen), but at the time I wasn''t into their genre. Then recently I watched a documentary about backup singers, mostly females. In the mix there was a gal who, according to the documentary, did backup vocals for this group called Talking Heads. So I go onto Amazon.com, look up the group''s music, come upon the music of "Stop Making Sense" and I''m finding myself mesmerized by not just the vocals, but by the incredible instrumentation coming from this group. It took me into retirement age to come across these wonderfully talented musicians. But, hey, better late than never.

Nitpicking first. The packaging on the disc indicates that it contains "all the songs from the classic movie + seven previously unreleased tracks". What should have been written is that the disc contains all of the songs from the original album (which by the way did not have much to do with the actual movie soundtrack except the songs had the same names - more about this later). Not all of the songs on this disc are the same version that are part of the movie. Having made a cassette tape from the movie soundtrack I recognize that the versions of "Take Me To The River" is different. I could tell because there are no band intros on this new disc. "This Must Be The Place" is missing a vital "uh-huh" by David Byrne. Also, a few great songs are missing most notably a great version of "Cities", "Big Business" and "I Zimbra". I don''t understand why they did not make a two disc set and us gave the whole thing. They also could have skipped the Tom Tom Club song as well. I''m assuming that everyone already knows that the original album had songs with the same names but was not actually the soundtrack. There were different versions of many of the songs probably from other nites of the Stop Making Sense Tour
That being said. This is some great music. From the opening to "Psycho Killer" (acoustic) to "Crosseyed and Painless". The Heads were a great band. Listening (and singing along) brings back the images of one of the great concert movies ever made. The entire band is at the top of their powers and David Byrne''s circumlocutions (if you''ve seen the movie, you know what I mean) come right through the disc.
Still, I wish they would have been more honest in their labeling. That is the reason for four stars instead of five.
